Georgia Detoxification & Rehabs for PCP (Phencyclidine) Addiction

How to recognize PCP abuse

PCP is a crystalline synthetic drug known as phencyclidine. It was used as an anesthetic but was stopped due to its severe side effects. Abuse of the drug leads to:

  • Sedation
  • Immobility
  • Amnesia
  • Numbness
  • Slurred speech
  • High blood pressure
  • Increased heart rate
  • Hallucinations

PCP or phencyclidine is a potent dissociative anesthetic/tranquilizer, and is still commonly abused throughout the United States. PCP was once used as an anesthetic for medical purposes in the 1950s, but is now no longer used for medical reasons. PCP is illegal within the United States, and is listed as a Schedule II Definition of the word Schedule II drug. Very often when PCP addicts are using the drug, they may tend to mix it with other substances. When PCP is mixed with drugs such as alcohol or even benzodiazepines, it will cause severe respiratory depression, which will cause coma and even death. PCP addiction and abuse will also increase the risk of suicide, especially for people who already have a history of suicidal tendencies. PCP addiction in Georgia can be properly treated at one of the different inpatient or outpatient drug treatment facilities within the state. Georgia's drug detox programs should be the first place where an addict should go prior to treatment. Most addicts struggle to go through detox on their own, and will require professional help.
