Greenlee is a county that is located in the state of Arizona. Home to an estimated population of approximately 9,400 people as of 2019 according to the United States Census Bureau, Greenlee is one of the smaller counties in the state. But being small hasn’t been enough to spare Greenlee from the effects of America’s drug epidemic, something that has been an issue across the country since the early 2000s. In 2019 there were 20.8 drug deaths for every 100,000 residents of the state of Arizona according to a report published by America’s Health Rankings. This shows exactly how many people are not getting the help that they need when it comes to drug and alcohol rehabilitation and detox services. But this is not necessarily a failure of America’s treatment system, since so many lives are lost to drugs before the person ever makes it into treatment. In early addiction, it is not uncommon for a person to accidentally overdose before they were ever ready to get help. This is likely because the person does not yet realize that they are addicted and believe that they could stop whenever they want to, but that they just don’t yet. This shows how tricky addiction can be, because the only way for the person to find out would be to quit, which they are unwilling to do. This is also why you must never ignore signs of drug use in a loved one.
