Illinois Detoxification & Rehabs for PCP (Phencyclidine) Addiction

What does PCP addiction look like?

PCP is a crystalline synthetic drug. It was once used as an anesthetic, but due to severe side effects, it had been discontinued. Abusing it leads to addiction, which causes the following:

  • Amnesia
  • Numbness
  • High blood pressure
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Stuttering

When a large amount of PCP or phencyclidine is taken the user will begin to see things that are not really there and also hear things that are not there. PCP will cause visual and auditory hallucinations and delusions of grandeur. The user's blood pressure and heart rate will increase, there will be breathing problems, an elevated body temperature, and intense anxiety and worry. PCP will also cause the user to feel invulnerable and also feel no pain, which can lead to other problems. Most PCP addictions are treated through residential and or outpatient drug treatment in Illinois. However, the first step should be an Illinois drug detox program to help the addict through the withdrawals. PCP withdrawals are not always dangerous, but this will depend upon the amount the person is taking and if there are any other drugs involved. Conventional detox and medical detox programs are available all throughout the state of Illinois, and this will be a good place to start for a PCP addiction.
