Long-Term Drug Rehab in Illinois
We believe that long-term treatment offers the best opportunity for a full recovery and lifelong sobriety. Here are a few reasons why:
- The facilities are primarily in remote locations, so the person can be away from the stress that comes with daily life.
- Maintaining sobriety during the early weeks of recovery is essential, and that is ensured with the structure and habits put in place at a long-term program in Illinois.
- Aftercare support is more accessible because of the relationships built during treatment.
- To increase the program’s success rate, residents remain in treatment for an adequate period.
Within the state of Illinois, there are different long-term rehab services available. For more information or assistance finding the one that is right for you, look through our listing above or call one of our professionals.
GETTING HELP WITH SUBSTANCE USE: THE BASICS
Paying for Treatment in Illinois
Paying for treatment in Illinois can be a barrier to getting help for many people. But there are also several ways to obtain assistance paying for drug rehab. Insurance, for example, can pay for the full cost of treatment. And the type of insurance matters also.
Paying for Treatment with Medicaid in Illinois
Medicaid can pay as much as the full rehab cost in Illinois. To qualify for Medicaid, the person must demonstrate financial hardship. With Medicaid coverage, they can only use it at state-funded programs or those that accept Medicaid. And with more than 3 million people on Medicaid in Illinois, those programs can fill up fast and have long waiting lists.
Using Private Insurance to Pay for Drug Rehab in Illinois
Private insurance can help pay for drug rehab in Illinois. Usually, more programs accept private health insurance and those that do often provide superior service. But it is expensive, and many people cannot afford private insurance coverage.
If they don’t qualify for Medicaid, they may think they have no other options. But thankfully, Illinois’s exchange marketplace offers access to policies with discounted premiums for those who meet income criteria.
The following insurers are available through the Illinois health insurance marketplace:
- Aetna
- Celtic Insurance Co.
- Health Alliance Medical Plans, Inc. (HAMP)
- Health Care Service Corporation
- Cigna
- Quartz
- MercyCare HMO
- SSM Health Plan
- Oscar
- Molina
- UnitedHealthcare
Paying for Treatment when Uninsured
Many people who use substances fail to take care of themselves during addiction and don’t have health insurance. Waiting to get them enrolled and covered before starting treatment can be risky and should not be done when other options exist.
Instead, anyone who finds themselves paying for treatment when uninsured should look for one of the programs in the state that offer sliding-scale payment plans. This entails discounting the price of treatment based on the person’s income, with the greatest discounts going to those who make the least. This can make treatment affordable when it otherwise would be too expensive.
You can contact one of the treatment specialists at Addicted.org for more information on how to pay for treatment. Or contact the center directly.
Learn from our Experts
- The average cost of long-term private residential drug rehab without health insurance is $56,000.
- The average cost of outpatient drug rehab in Illinois is $1,700, yet this can go up or down depending on how long a person remains in treatment.
- Drug and alcohol detox in Illinois costs between $250 and $800 daily. In comparison, medical detox costs more and can be over $1000 a day.
- In addition, there are low-cost and free drug rehab options in Illinois for someone who meets specific criteria.
- An average length of stay at an inpatient drug rehab in Illinois is 4 to 6 weeks.
- The average time spend attending an outpatient facility in Illinois is 12 to 18 weeks. However, this can be shorter or longer.
- The average length of stay at a clinical drug or alcohol detox center in Illinois is three to seven days. Yet medical detox may last 7 to 14 days or longer.
Based on treatment admissions, Illinois’s most commonly used drugs are primarily heroin and alcohol.
If someone you know begins to exhibit the signs of heroin addiction or alcoholism, it is critical to seek help. Substance worsens with time, and it becomes more challenging to help the person accept treatment.

Addicted.org's Evaluation of Drug Rehab in Illinois
A benefit to searching for substance use treatment in Illinois is the significant number of options to choose from. However, most are situated within the Chicago metropolitan area, which can make it frustrating to escape the current drug-using environment. In this situation, we recommend exploring all the options outside of where you live and even in neighboring states. Compare the accessibility and affordability of these programs.
Additionally, despite numerous detoxification programs in the state, which is a massive benefit for anyone needing medical detox, only a small percentage of facilities are classified as residential non-hospital settings. A residential setting is generally the most successful.
Finally, the affordability of help in the state is a mixed bag. Medicaid and private health insurance cover over half of the services. A very minimal percentage of facilities offer help at no charge or minimal cost. Yet, there is a specific criterion to meet, and this only serves a particular demographic of drug users.
