Long-term drug treatment is a type of rehabilitation that can be offered at either an inpatient or outpatient substance abuse rehab program. There are various inpatient and outpatient facilities that operate all throughout the state of South Dakota, where addicts can access this type of care for his or her addiction.

According to South Dakota’s Statewide Targeted Response to the Opioid Crisis issued in 2017, the state ranked second-lowest in the nation for drug overdose deaths. In 2015, 66 people died from drug-related causes, and 24 of those deaths are attributed to opioids. During 2015 enough doses of opiates were prescribed to South Dakota residents to medicate every adult around the clock for 19 straight days. The prescription drug monitoring program in the state has been a successful intervention process. Approximately 53% of treatment admissions were both alcohol and drugs, while 30% were for an alcohol problem, and 15% were for a drug problem. When searching for residential drug treatment in the state, it is vital to consider many options. There are different counseling and therapy methodologies available, and choosing the right one determines how effective the rehabilitation is.
