Intensive Outpatient Programs for Substance Abuse in the United States
Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) are by definition an outpatient drug rehab program, but it does not necessarily rely on detox to assist their patients through treatment.
The detox process will primarily be done within a different setting such as a medical detox or traditional detox program. Intensive outpatient programs will help people struggling with chemical dependency problems, gambling addictions, alcohol problems, sex addiction, and other addictive disorders. These facilities are not necessarily large-scale operations, but rather provide services for their clients for periods of 10 to 20 hours a week, so as the client can still maintain his or her on-going responsibilities.
