There are many problems that Kentucky counties have been affected by, and many of them deal with alcohol and drug abuse. For instance, alcohol-impaired driving led to deaths in many of the state’s counties, with 26, 51, and 116 deaths for Kenton, Fayette, and Jefferson counties respectively between 2014 and 2018, according to County Health Rankings. Opioid overdoses have also caused many deaths in these three counties, with 104, 111, and 259 deaths for 2017. The opioid epidemic is present all around the nation, and opioid addiction is very serious. The best way to fully overcome an opioid abuse problem is to attend a drug treatment program. For such an addiction, the treatment will normally begin with medical detox, so they can go through the withdrawal symptoms in a safe and supervised environment. Once the physical side is taken care of, they can then address the psychological side of their addiction, and learn to deal with different life issues without having to resort to opioid abuse. Most treatment centers also offer aftercare support, to ensure that the former addict sticks to their sobriety, and to help them with finding a job, housing, etc., as it is not always easy to go back into society after attending such a program.
