King William County has been suffering from the different consequences associated with drug and alcohol abuse, and it has in fact caused a great deal of damage within the community. This should be taken very seriously as it can lead to a lot of devastation, and these next statistics will help prove this statement true. Firstly, there is drug poisoning that has caused many fatalities, with a drug overdose mortality rate of 14 deaths per 100,000 population for 2016-2018, according to County Health Rankings. This is not the only issue that has led to casualties in the county, as between 2014 and 2018, there were 3 alcohol-impaired driving deaths, accounting for 23% of the 13 driving deaths that occurred during this period. Excessive drinking may have been at cause for some of these deaths, and in 2017, nearly one-fifth of the county's adult population reported either binge or heavy drinking, 19% precisely. Treatment is extremely important for someone to truly overcome their addiction to alcohol and/or drugs, but some people may not realize just how bad their problem has gotten. In such cases, an intervention might be a good option, as it is a chance for the addict's loved ones to let them know how affected they have been by their addiction. For this to happen, the family will need the help of an intervention specialist who will be able to guide them through this process. They will go over what will happen during the intervention, as well as make alternate plans to put in place if the addict does not wish to attend a treatment program. The hope is, of course, that they will realize that they need help and accept their loved ones' help, so they can fully recover from their addiction.
