Lafourche Parish is located in the southern part of the state, and in 2018 its population was over 98,000 people. The largest city in the parish is Thibodaux, which is also the parish seat. Anyone struggling with addiction who lives in the region can access programs and services to treat addiction. When searching for drug rehab programs, most families choose an addiction assessment, which could be done over the phone or in-person. The purpose of an assessment is to determine the extent of addiction and what rehabilitation options are available. The first step or phase of treatment involves detox, which manages withdrawal symptoms and cravings. Detoxification options include inpatient medically supervised detox or withdrawal management and or conventional detox.

Following detox, the next step with drug rehabilitation occurs within an inpatient or outpatient drug treatment center. Typically, the severity and extent of addiction determine what type of rehabilitation is required. Residential drug rehab centers offer excellent treatment solutions and proper counseling, therapy, relapse prevention, and aftercare. Short-term drug rehab centers are usually three to six weeks, which is brief but intensive. Long-term drug treatment provides lengthier options, which usually last three to six months or more. Aftercare support is also recommended, which includes sober livening homes, 12-step meetings, and most forms of peer support. Overall, the rehabilitation process should help a person physically, mentally, and even spiritually if it is a faith-based program. Treatment should meet the rehabilitation needs of the person attending the program.
