Throughout the state of South Dakota, there is a limited amount of drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers, but there are many resources available in the larger cities and communities within the state. Some of the drug and alcohol treatment programs can help the men and women who work in law enforcement, who may be struggling with an addiction. Drug addiction impacts many people who work as police officers, but drug rehabilitation will provide the necessary services. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration website do list what programs are available through the state but does not provide a list of programs that can help treat members of law enforcement.

Drug and alcohol abuse is a problem that many face within law enforcement, and it is important that they talk about these problems and find the right kind of help to treat addiction. One of the major issues that police officers have to deal with is PTSD and other problems related to stress and depression that is caused by the job. In order to cope with these problems, some officers turn to drugs and alcohol, but internally programs are provided to help treat these issues.
