TIPS: If you're looking for Christian drug rehab

  • Contact the local church or congregation leader for support and strength during this difficult time.
  • Contact a substance abuse professional at Addicted.org to see what resources are available in your area that fit your spiritual needs.
  • Encourage the individual struggling to attend religious services, but do not force them or make them wrong for not going. This could force them away
  • Contact a medical professional before stopping heavy substance use because withdrawal from alcohol and certain drugs can be life-threatening.

Christian Drug and Alcohol Rehab in Louisiana and Long-Term Recovery

After completing detox and inpatient or outpatient treatment, aftercare support and long-term recovery is the next process. There are significant benefits to attending Christian-based drug and alcohol treatment programs because of the 12-step support groups, faith-based support, and other peer support forms. There is a strong fellowship among Christian-based treatment centers and faith-based support groups. It is important to remain connected to other sober people and continue to work on sobriety after treatment. Substance abuse and addiction impact many families and individuals that live in Louisiana. According to a Behavioral Health Barometer, the percentage of alcohol dependence and abuse among residents aged 12 or older was similar to the national percentage at the time of this report.

Additionally, at the time of this report, over 110,000 people aged 12 or older per year were dependent on or abused illicit drugs. Regardless of the type of addiction, a Christian drug and alcohol treatment program provide excellent options for detox, treatment, and aftercare support. Christian drug and alcohol treatment centers help patients awaken their relationship with God and strengthen their spiritual connection. Some of the programs may include intensive bible study, pastoral counseling, prayer and meditation, Christian fellowship, worship services, life skills training, and other forms of support.

Some of the advantage of Christian treatment and supporting long-term recovery is helping people recover without judgment and taking a biblically based perspective. Christian-based treatment programs offer well-rounded rehabilitation, and it is important to find the right type of help. The first step is detox, followed by inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation, and aftercare support.

MEDICAL REVIEWER

More Information

Michael Leach is a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, who has over 5 years of experience working in the field of addiction. He spent his career working under the board-certified Addictionologist Dr. Rohit Adi. His experience includes working with families during their loved one’s stay in treatment, helping those with substance abuse issues find treatment, and teaching life skills to patients in a recovery atmosphere. Though he has worked in many different areas of rehabilitation, the majority of his time was spent working one on one with patients who were actively withdrawing from drugs. Withdrawal and the fear of going through it is one biggest reason why an addict continues to use and can be the most difficult part of the rehabilitation process. His experience in the withdrawal atmosphere has taught him that regardless of what approach a person takes to get off drugs, there are always mental and emotional obstacles that need to be overcome. He believes having someone there to help a person through these obstacles can make all the difference during the withdrawal process.
