Christian treatment programs incorporate evidence-based approaches to spiritual healing, and this could include behavioral therapies, group and individual counseling, and even non-traditional approaches. Most Christian-based drug rehab centers incorporate holistic therapy and other approaches to help the body. Christ is the base of the entire treatment plan, and the goal is to strengthen the spiritual foundation so the patient can achieve sobriety. Some Christian rehab centers’ treatment options include education on spiritual principles and teachings, developing a relationship with God, religious studies, and participating in meditation and prayer. An addiction assessment is a good place to begin when searching for a Christian drug and alcohol treatment center. The purpose of an assessment is to determine the extent of addiction and find the best possible treatment option.

TIPS: If you're looking for Christian drug rehab

  • Contact the local church or congregation leader for support and strength during this difficult time.
  • Contact a substance abuse professional at Addicted.org to see what resources are available in your area that fit your spiritual needs.
  • Encourage the individual struggling to attend religious services, but do not force them or make them wrong for not going. This could force them away
  • Contact a medical professional before stopping heavy substance use because withdrawal from alcohol and certain drugs can be life-threatening.

Christian Drug Rehab in Mississippi and Spiritual Healing

Spiritual healing is an important component of Christian-based drug and alcohol treatment centers. Many people that have struggled with addiction can attribute their recovery to reconnecting with God and Christ. Spiritual healing is one side of addiction recovery, but an important aspect of helping people achieve sobriety and maintain long-term recovery. The healing of the whole self, the mind, body, and spirit are what makes a Christian-based treatment center a unique rehabilitation option. Without proper treatment, substance abuse and addiction become progressively worse. The longer someone is abusing drugs or alcohol, the greater risk of overdose.

According to the Mississippi State Department of Health, the total number of drug overdose deaths declined sharply from 346 in 2017 to 315 in 2018. However, at the same time, the number of deaths involving heroin and methamphetamine increased, as did deaths resulting from polydrug use. All of the counties in Mississippi reported drug overdose deaths from 2011 to 2018. Treatment is the best option to help people beat addiction and prevent overdose. Overall, the rehabilitation process for Christian-based treatment programs is the same as any other.

The first step is detox, and this could be a medical detox provider or a standard detox provider. However, detox should not be considered the only treatment approach used. The next step with treatment involves attending a residential or outpatient drug treatment center. Also, it is important to consider aftercare support like 12-step meetings, faith-based recovery groups, and other forms of peer support.

Michael Leach is a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, who has over 5 years of experience working in the field of addiction. He spent his career working under the board-certified Addictionologist Dr. Rohit Adi. His experience includes working with families during their loved one’s stay in treatment, helping those with substance abuse issues find treatment, and teaching life skills to patients in a recovery atmosphere. Though he has worked in many different areas of rehabilitation, the majority of his time was spent working one on one with patients who were actively withdrawing from drugs. Withdrawal and the fear of going through it is one biggest reason why an addict continues to use and can be the most difficult part of the rehabilitation process. His experience in the withdrawal atmosphere has taught him that regardless of what approach a person takes to get off drugs, there are always mental and emotional obstacles that need to be overcome. He believes having someone there to help a person through these obstacles can make all the difference during the withdrawal process.
