Monroe County is a county that can be found in the state of Pennsylvania. The county seat is Stroudsburg. It is home to a population of around 170,000 people as estimated by the United States Census Bureau for 2019. This makes it a relatively average-sized county in the state. In 2019 there were 35.1 drug deaths for every 100,000 residents of the state according to a report from America’s Health Rankings, a rate which was well above the national average for that year. This shows just how bad the drug problem is across the state, and we can assume that there were at least 40 drug deaths in Monroe County in 2019 given this information. Each of these people could have been saved if they had gotten effective treatment before it was too late. This is not saying that these people had never been to treatment before, as many of them had probably attended some form of rehabilitation or detox service prior. But perhaps it was not the right point in their life or not the right program for their needs. Those who had never attended treatment before likely accidentally overdosed and were relatively early in addiction. When a person first begins using drugs, they have a very low tolerance and are much more likely to overdose because of this. Sometimes this can happen before they ever would have been ready to get help and before anyone even knew that they were on drugs.
