For many decades the United States has seen some of the highest rates of addiction compared to any other country in the world. There are even much smaller places within the US that are experiencing elevated rates of drug and alcohol addiction including Nassau County, Florida which has Fernandina Beach as the county seat. According to the Centers for Disease Control, the state of Florida has reported a total of 4,698 drug-related deaths in a single year, some of the highest rates of any state. Sadly this is becoming a more common occurrence as we are beginning to see more and more states reporting these same drug addiction rates. Since the start of the drug crisis, there have been many drug treatment programs to open which has allowed drug users to receive the help they need to overcome their addiction. Handling a substance abuse problem typically requires the attention and support of a drug treatment program or similar service as they help patients address every aspect of their addiction. Substance abuse can create many mental and emotional difficulties that must be addressed in order to give the patient the best chance at long term sobriety. If you have concerns that a loved one is abusing drugs or alcohol, do not hesitate to call and receive additional information on addiction, drug treatment programs, and any other questions or concerns. Continued drug abuse will only lead to more complications and the risk of a fatal drug overdose.
