Drug Treatment Facilities in New Kent County, Virginia

Last updated: Tuesday, 09, November 2021

New Kent County has been struggling with drug and alcohol abuse for many years now and it has caused an important amount of damage in this area of Virginia, which includes the county seat, New Kent. Whenever substance abuse is present in a community, it should always be taken seriously, because it only leads to devastation and harm, which these next statistics will prove. For instance, if we look at excessive drinking, 20% of the county's adult population reported binge or heavy drinking in 2017. Drinking in this way is never good, since it can bring about serious health problems, and because it can impair a person's judgment to the point where they might make a life-threatening choice. In fact, between 2014 and 2018, alcohol-impaired driving caused 6 casualties in New Kent County, which accounts for 22% of the total number of driving-related deaths. But this is not the only issue that has led to fatalities, as for 2016-2018, the drug overdose mortality rate was of 13 deaths per 100,000 population, according to County Health Rankings. Substance abuse has no prejudice as it can affect just about anyone. For example, college students are definitely prone to this, since the college scene is for some their first experience at freedom and being away from home. Additionally, the need to perform well enough can cause a lot of stress for these people and might bring them to start misusing drugs and/or alcohol. Thankfully, there are treatment programs for college students that can help them come out of this situation. Such programs will assist them in discovering the root causes of this addiction, so they can be in control of it and not let it control their life anymore. This is also a time when they will be able to find alternative solutions to deal with their stressful life and school situations, ones that don't involve abusing any substance.
