In the state of New York, one of the most alarming issues is drug overdoses, and unfortunately, when a drug overdose happens, and it isn't taken care of fast enough or appropriately, it is possible for it to lead to death. Most of the state has suffered from this problem. As per County Health Rankings, the top three counties with the highest rate of drug overdose deaths are Suffolk County with 1 136 deaths, Kings County with 959 drug overdose deaths, and Bronx County with 915 deaths, all of these calculated per 100 000 population. These numbers are extremely high, and it definitely confirms that drug abuse is an unavoidable issue in New York.
Organizations Helping with Substance Abuse Prevention
There are many organizations that provide prevention and treatment for substance abuse, and we will look at a few of them. First, there is the Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Providers (ASAP) of New York, which has many programs for both the treatment and the prevention of alcohol and drug abuse, including school programs, outpatient treatment, and educational activities, all in order to help the community in every way it can. Then, there is the Substance Abuse Prevention and Intervention Specialists (SAPIS) program, which provides lots of services for intervention and prevention in young people from grades K-12, such as counseling, alternative activities, and classroom lessons, all in order to reduce the use of drugs and alcohol within the youth of New York State.
