North Dakota Long-Term Drug Rehab

At DRS, we believe that long-term rehab offers the best opportunities for a full recovery – here are some of the reasons why:

  • The facilities are normally in a remote location, away from a person’s usual environment.
  • Living at the facility allows the person to put their life on pause and focus solely on recovery.
  • Because of the length of treatment, psychological and medical support can be provided on a 24/7 basis.
  • Strong relationships can be built during treatment, lasting even after the program’s completion, which can benefit lifelong sobriety.

Getting Help With Substance Use: The Basics

Paying for Treatment in North Dakota

The cost of drug and alcohol treatment can vary from program to program, complicating the process of finding drug rehab. Between different forms of health insurance, government or state funding, and other financial assistance, drug and alcohol treatment is available to anyone with any financial status. While health insurance and Medicaid typically cover the most for drug treatment, there are still other ways to receive the care needed without having health insurance.

Paying for Treatment with Medicaid in North Dakota

North Dakota accepted federal funding in 2013 for the Medicaid expansion, which has reduced the uninsured rate by 30% from fall 2013 to May 2021 and has allowed over 110,000 people from North Dakota to be covered by Mecicaid/CHIP as of May 2021. The more residents obtain health insurance, the more availability they have in drug treatment options. Medicaid is accepted at roughly half of the drug rehab centers in the state however, due to the increase in drug abuse and drug treatment rates, government and state-funded

Using Private Insurance to pay for Drug Rehab in North Dakota

Private health insurance is another option to pay for drug and alcohol rehabilitation services, and often the programs are of higher quality. The private health insurance providers will work with specific drug treatment programs, and all providers offer coverage for all basic drug treatment services. Each health insurance policy can differ from one other, especially between providers, so it is important to talk to your insurance provider about what options are available to you. Even if your insurance policy covers treatment, there can still be out-of-pocket expenses associated with the treatment.

According to the North Dakota Health Insurance Marketplace Guide 2023, the following insurers are available in North Dakota:

  • Medica
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (Noridian)
  • Sanford

Paying for Treatment When Uninsured

If you are not insured with any insurance, paying for a drug treatment program can be pretty costly. Other financial options are available to those searching for drug treatment services, including self or cash-pay programs and a sliding scale. A sliding scale allows patients to pay a fee based on their income rather than a set fee to ensure that the treatment services can be more affordable.

DRS’ Evaluation of North Dakota Drug Rehabs

A frustrating barrier for families looking for substance use treatment in North Dakota is the demand for treatment and the limited number of beds to meet this demand. Most of the programs in the state are outpatient facilities and there are limited options for residential treatment and detox. These options may have long wait lists. Our experts recommend contacting the available programs. Place a name on the wait list if it’s needed. Also, search for help in neighboring states.

Additionally, there are some financial barriers. Slightly over half of the programs accept Medicaid, yet most of them take private health insurance. Some programs offer a sliding fee scale or take state-financed health insurance other than Medicaid. We recommend when contacting the different programs ask about payment options. Also, contact your local Medicaid office or health insurance to find out what is insurance covers.

His experience includes working with families during their loved one’s stay in treatment, helping those with substance abuse issues find treatment, and teaching life skills to patients in a recovery atmosphere. Though he has worked in many different areas of rehabilitation, the majority of his time was spent working one on one with patients who were actively withdrawing from drugs. Withdrawal and the fear of going through it is one biggest reason why an addict continues to use and can be the most difficult part of the rehabilitation process. His experience in the withdrawal atmosphere has taught him that regardless of what approach a person takes to get off drugs, there are always mental and emotional obstacles that need to be overcome. He believes having someone there to help a person through these obstacles can make all the difference during the withdrawal process.
