Oceanside is a hamlet part of the town Hempstead situated in Nassau County. The population is estimated at around 30,000 people, with a median age of about 44 years old. The rate of poverty in the town is approximately 5.5% who are living below the poverty line. The town of Hempstead is one of three cities located in the western half of Long Island and is the largest city in Nassau County. In 2017 the number of opioid-related deaths started to decrease since 2010, and this continued into 2018 with a 20% decrease in the number of deaths. Opioid addiction is a dangerous problem and has claimed the lives of thousands of people. The different drug and alcohol treatment programs in Nassau County help people who are addicted to or dependent on opioids. The first step in treatment is withdrawal management or medical detox. Most opioid users choose medication-assisted treatment along with behavioral counseling.
