Oklahoma Long-Term Drug and Alcohol Rehab
It is our belief at DRS that long-term treatment is the most effective approach when it comes to achieving life-long sobriety. Here are some reasons why:
- Individuals with a long history of addiction and relapses need ample time to recover, which long-term programs in Oklahoma can provide.
- In addition to the basics of treatment, individual, group & family counseling can be provided, ensuring all dynamics are addressed.
- During treatment, residents can attend to other problems they are dealing with, such as medical, physical, and social issues.
- Aftercare support is provided once the person completes the program, and long-term treatment often offers more adequate aftercare services.
It is important for anyone struggling with drug & alcohol addiction to seek out help. There is a program out there that is right for you. Take the first step in trusting us and reaching out to us, and we will assist you in your path to recovery.
Getting Help With Substance Use: The Basics
Paying for Treatment in Oklahoma
Paying for treatment in Oklahoma can vary greatly depending on what type of program the person chooses and if they have health insurance coverage. Because treatment can be very expensive, having health insurance can significantly reduce the expense.
Paying for Treatment with Medicaid in Oklahoma
Medicaid can cover as much as the entire cost of treatment in Oklahoma. Residents can apply for Medicaid coverage by providing information about their income, which helps determine their eligibility. If qualified, they can use Medicaid to pay for treatment at any facility that accepts it. More than 1 million people have Medicaid assistance in Oklahoma.
Using Private Insurance to Pay for Drug Rehab in Oklahoma
Private health insurance can be purchased to cover expenses like treatment in the future. But if someone needs treatment immediately, it won’t be possible to purchase private health insurance for them in time. Private policies are only available during certain times of the year. Generally, they won’t pay for major expenses like treatment until the policy has been maintained for several months or more.
Many people cannot afford private health insurance, so they hope to qualify for Medicaid. But not all of them do, leaving many people without coverage. Thankfully, Oklahoma has expanded its Medicaid program to cover more individuals who fall within this gap. This includes access to certain policies through the state’s exchange marketplace that may be discounted based on the person’s income.
The following insurers are available through the Oklahoma Health Insurance Guide 2023:
- Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma
- Oscar
- Medica
- CommunityCare
- UnitedHealthcare
- Friday Health Plans
- Ambetter (Centene/Celtic)
Paying for Treatment when Uninsured
Even with the above options for assistance, many people end up paying for treatment when uninsured. Often, the person abusing substances hasn’t maintained health insurance or applied for assistance. And waiting for coverage when rehab is needed is extremely risky and should be avoided whenever possible.
Luckily, some programs understand this dilemma and help make treatment more affordable by offering sliding-scale payment assistance. With a sliding scale, the less income a person makes, the less they are charged for the program. The cost may also be split into affordable payments so they can begin treatment sooner if they don’t have the total.
For more information on how to pay for treatment, you can contact one of the treatment specialists at DRS. or contact the center directly.

DRS’ Evaluation of Drug Rehabs of Oklahoma
In Oklahoma, there are excellent quality substance use treatment programs. However, individuals who lack insurance or cannot pay out of pocket may often find themselves on a long waiting list that prioritizes the most severe drug addiction cases. State-funded treatment is generally prioritized for IV drug users and pregnant women drug users. We recommend contacting multiple programs and not ruling out the private sector. In the state, over half of the programs are private non-profit organizations. There are numerous outpatient treatment options and some residential options, yet detox is limited in its choices.
Financially, three quarters of the programs accept Medicaid, and slightly over half take private health insurance. In addition, many programs offer treatment at no charge or minimal payment for clients who can’t pay and offer a sliding fee scale. Our experts recommend when speaking to treatment providers, ask about payment options. Also, contact your local Medicaid office or health insurance provider and find out what insurance covers.
