Located in the southwestern portion of San Bernardino County, the city of Ontario is only 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. Close enough to the greater Los Angeles Area, many of the drug problems the city struggles with are flooding over from Los Angeles. Like many other cities in San Bernardino County, substance abuse treatment programs in Ontario are there to help out those in need. Within San Bernardino County between 2015 and 2016, the number of admissions to county treatment facilities rose 7% in one year. The increase in treatment admissions was primarily driven by opioid addiction. Moreover, within the past five years' admissions into treatment programs in the county grew by 35%.

Over the past ten years in San Bernardino County, the rate of drug-induced deaths improved, yet alcohol-induced deaths have gotten worse. The number of deaths caused by chronic liver disease and cirrhosis associated with substance abuse has worsened. The county has more deaths due to liver disease and cirrhosis than the state-wide average. Between 2012 and 2016, most of the treatment admissions into county programs were for opiates and methamphetamine. Publicly funded programs in Ontario can help addicts struggling with all types of addiction. In 2019 there were 86 opioid-related deaths among opioid users aged 12 and older. This is why it is so important that anyone struggling with addiction get help from one of the drug rehab programs in Ontario.
