Alcohol And Drug Rehab Treatments For Military In Puerto Rico

Members of the armed forces are not immune to the abuse of drugs and alcohol. However, per the National Institute on Drug Abuse, drug addiction among military members is lower than civilians. Throughout the territory of Puerto Rico are different drug and alcohol treatment programs to help members of the military. Heavy alcohol use and the abuse of prescription drugs are a problem for members of the United States military. There are many reasons why someone in the military would become addicted to drugs and alcohol. This could be the stress of deployment during wartime, or the unique culture of military service. Many members of the United States military with multiple deployments and combat exposure struggle with PTSD and drug addiction.

These drug problems often start with prescription drugs. Very often these medications are prescribed to treat physical and psychological problems. However, it becomes quite easy to abuse these drugs and end up addicted to them. Prescription drug abuse is higher among service members than among civilians. It is estimated around 10% of service members reported prescription drug abuse after 2010. Finding the right type of treatment is important. The military does provide avenues for members to seek out help. There is often free counseling and support, along with detox and treatment. The military does conduct random drug testing. Because of this, the abuse of illegal street drugs is low. Yet, alcohol and prescription drugs are abused often. Active duty service members also have the option to ask for an assessment and treatment on their own. Health insurance will help cover the cost of treatment, and ensure members of the military can get the help they need.
