Frequently Asked Questions

Should you seek treatment in Kern County, or look further away?

I have watched a lot of people come off meth, and Bakersfield sees plenty of it. Meth does not need a medical detox the way alcohol or benzos do, nobody is going to seize. But do not think you can ride it out at home. After a long run the body is wrecked, not sleeping, not eating, completely depleted. The person needs structure, food, rest and time to rebuild. That is what a residential program gives you that your own couch never will. Kern has a fair spread of local options for its size. If it is alcohol or benzos instead, medical withdrawal is handled at a hospital first, because the local programs do not do that part. For the meth, the question is the same one that decides most of these cases. Is the house you would ride it out in the same house, with the same people you were using with? If it is, you already know how that ends. The answer is a bed that gets you out of there, not the couch that keeps you in it.
