Frequently Asked Questions

Should you seek treatment in Sonoma County, or look further away?

Sonoma is wine country, and that is why I want to be careful. The withdrawal support available locally is monitoring only, without a doctor who can treat a seizure. For a lot of situations that is fine. For alcohol it is not, and alcohol is the drug this area knows best. Heavy long-term drinking is where withdrawal can become a medical emergency. For that you want a hospital or a medically supervised setting first, then come back to a Sonoma program once you are stable. The residential picture here is somewhat uneven, with some stays running four months or more, which is a real length. If your needs do not match what is locally strongest, looking a bit wider into the next county is the right call. Wider usually also means further from home, which works in your favor. If it is heavy drinking you are coming off, do not let the lighter local monitoring be your withdrawal plan. Get the medical supervision first and come back for the program after.
