Frequently Asked Questions

Should you seek treatment in Hillsborough County, or look further away?

I have a straight warning about Tampa, because I have seen this. Some programs around here sell detox that is really extended sauna sessions, piles of supplements, or some proprietary opioid procedure, instead of real medical withdrawal management. I ran a drug-free program for years and I believe in good nutrition, rest, massage, supporting the body. I used all of it. But that is support, it is not a medical detox, and for alcohol or benzos it is dangerous to rely on, because those can cause seizures. Ask any program exactly what their detox involves before you trust it with a withdrawal that carries medical risk. Tampa’s hospitals do real medical detox and Medicaid covers it, and beyond that the area has free long-term options once you are stable. Make them tell you what their detox is. Sauna and supplements is not an answer for someone coming off benzos. When you pick the program after, judge it the same way, by what it does for you, not by how close it is or how good the pitch sounded.
