Frequently Asked Questions

Should you seek treatment in Alexandria, or look further away?

In Alexandria, some care is local and the rest is across the DC area, with a coverage trap to watch. Locally there is free faith based live in care and court mandated education, with a fuller range 4 to 14 miles out, including live in programs, medically supervised withdrawal care, lighter daily support, and more faith based beds in suburban Maryland. The gap is local medically supervised withdrawal care. For alcohol or benzos, a hospital or the SAMHSA line handles that first step, and some live in programs require you be through withdrawal first. The trap in this region is that Medicaid does not automatically cross state lines, so Virginia Medicaid may not cover DC or Maryland programs without checking. The plan is some local care plus the metro for withdrawal care and a live in bed. A few miles across the DC area is not real distance from your environment. For someone the scene keeps pulling back, I would confirm the coverage, sort the withdrawal, then look at a program further out.
