Frequently Asked Questions

Should you seek treatment in Lynchburg, or look further away?

Lynchburg is the regional anchor for this part of Virginia, because it has medically supervised withdrawal care and co-ed live in care locally, along with MAT and court mandated programming. That is why people from the surrounding area get pointed here. For alcohol or benzos, that local supervised withdrawal is the right first step, and you do not have to drive for it, which is a real advantage. Standalone lighter daily support is a bit thinner locally, so for that a broader search through Virginia’s DBHDS system or the SAMHSA line can find more providers. There is a live in program about 38 miles out for adolescents. Live in programs run 30 to 90 days with longer options, and for a heavy history I would take the long one. A lot of people here can do the withdrawal care and live in program close to home. The one person I would send further is the guy for whom Lynchburg itself is the pull. For him a program with real distance does what the local bed cannot.
