St. Mary's County is a county that can be found in the state of Maryland. Home to an estimated population of around 113,000 people as of 2019 according to the United States Census Bureau, St. Mary's County is one of the larger counties in the state. But one drawback to size is the risk of increased rates of substance abuse and overdose death, something which has been a major problem across the state of Maryland since the early 2000s when America’s drug epidemic first began. According to County Health Rankings, from 2015 to 2017 there were 88 drug deaths in St. Mary's County, an inexcusably high rate which shows just a glimpse of how many people are not getting the help they need from drug and alcohol rehabilitation and detox services. Every drug death was a life that could have been saved if the person had gotten the right kind of help for their needs at the right point. But so many people accidentally overdose before being ready to receive help for their addiction. This is especially true in early addiction where the person has a low tolerance and does not yet want help. This is why you never leave it up t them to be “ready” as so many have suggested in this field. Act now before it is too late to save their life. At the end of the day that is all that matters. One can be “right” all day long about how the person just did not want to be helped but being right is not a replacement for the lost life.
