Snohomish County is located in northwestern Washington state. Home to Everett and over 800,000 residents as of the 2010 census, the county has seen its fair share of drug problems. From 2015 to 2017, there were 390 drug overdose deaths in Snohomish County, illustrating the magnitude of the problem, according to County Health Rankings. For every person the died from drug use that year, how many others are still using drugs and struggling? We’ll never know for sure, but it’s clear the area needs help from drug and alcohol rehabilitation and treatment services. Many of those lives could’ve been saved if the person had gotten help at the right time. And anyone how wants treatment now can better their lives and avoid becoming another statistic. Anyone struggling with substance abuse should get help as soon as possible. Before doing anything, contact an addiction professional about the best option for you. Be completely honest about your drug use as it may be unsafe for you to attend treatment without first completing medical detox.

There are a few different forms of treatment one can find in Snohomish County. Inpatient treatment consists of an option where a person lives at the facility, usually for several weeks, while participating in various therapeutic activities during this time. An intensive approach, inpatient treatment is generally considered to be the gold standard of drug and alcohol rehabilitation and is what most people think of when imagining treatment. The benefits of this approach include being completely removed from the environment where the person bought and used drugs, and out of contact with all those people. Instead, the person is a part of a temporary community with others who are drug-free and seeking recovery.

Another common form of treatment is known as an outpatient treatment. This is where the person continues to live at home but travels to the facility to participate in treatment sessions. This can range from every day to only once or twice a week depending upon how far along the person is in the treatment process. Sessions are usually a few hours and the person is usually drug tested when they arrive. Missing sessions is a sign of trouble and can result in being dismissed from outpatient treatment. As you can see, this gives the person a lot more freedom which can be risky. Outpatient treatment is usually recommended for those who have already completed inpatient treatment or who are already clean but need additional support and relapse prevention services.

Medical detoxification is another form of treatment that is quite common. These facilities will only accept patients that are on high doses of substances that either has very uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms or are unsafe to detox from with medical supervision. They use specialized medications that are similar to the drug the person was abusing. This allows them to control dosing and taper the person down to a dose they can quit easily. They are gotten through the entire process with supervision and it is much more comfortable and safer than doing it alone or at a facility not equipped to manage your symptoms.
