Intervention is not an easy process, and many family members avoid confrontation and choose not to bring up the problems of addiction. The intervention process is successful when a professional interventionist helps the family. When searching for an intervention group in South Dakota, you may not always find local resources. However, the treatment program you are working with may refer you to an intervention specialist. Most families contact nation-wide intervention groups that travel to the family and perform the intervention. There is a significant amount of planning for an intervention, and much of the process involves counseling the family.

A certified interventionist should be qualified and trained to help the family. This is especially important to help the family address problems connected to enabling and co-dependency. Enabling occurs when one or more people are helping the addict use drugs. For example, this involves giving them money, paying their bills, or even bailing them out of legal trouble. Unfortunately, enabling is a sure way to derail the intervention. Intervention specialists spend the first day working with the family and helping them understand the damage of enabling and co-dependency. Along with this, the entire intervention is planned, such as when, where, and who is attending.
