The Suffolk County Department of Health Services (SCDHS), in collaboration with the Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (LICADD), implemented a 24/7 hotline for those who are in crisis or are considering getting help for their addiction. It also helps their loved ones. The SCDHS also distributes palm cards with the hotline number on them and a number that people can call to report anonymously to the Police Department of Suffolk County if they have witnessed suspected drug activity. There is also the Opioid Overdose Prevention Classes, where those attending are trained to recognize if an individual is overdosing on opioids, to administer Narcan, which is an antidote to opioid overdose and also to take the precautions needed until EMS arrives on the scene. Because of these classes, many people are able to save lives.
