Another organization that does a lot to prevent substance abuse is the Alcohol and Drug Council of Tompkins County, which is a non-profit that offers services and programs for the education and prevention of drug & alcohol abuse by providing information, counseling and referral services to the community. They have an Open Access Center that provides services such as education, which informs families and individuals on different things relating to substance use, brief intervention for those emitting signs of behaviors that could eventually lead to substance addiction and abuse, etc. Their prevention services are aimed at not only reducing risks factors, but also improving protective factors for substance abuse in the county’s youth.
