Addiction Education Series - 1.01 - Emotions

Hello and welcome to our series of educational videos. These videos are created to educate people on drugs and alcohol addiction and rehabilitation so they can understand better the whole subject. The following is based on my 20 years of experience working directly with people addicted and their families.

Before we start let me introduce to Charlie. Charlie will be our actor for this example. One of the reasons people get addicted to drugs and alcohol is emotions.

Charlie goes through different kinds of emotions. Negative emotions such as fear, apathy, anger, etc. These are common emotions which most people experience every day. They are part of our lives. But some people are stuck on a negative emotion and this negative emotion will have some adverse effects on the person which can lead to drug and alcohol addiction.

Here is an example.

Charlie is a very grumpy person. He triggers at the first occasion when something is not the way he wants. The problem with this is it can trigger some adverse effects from the opposing party. Charlie is at work and yells at his boss regularly. After a while, it will have adverse effects on Charlie. For example, he will not get a promotion. Charlie gets home not happy that he did not get his promotion and then yells at his kids then his wife is really not happy of his behavior and let him have it because of his behavior and there is not enough money coming in.

Charlie is overwhelmed so one night he goes with friends and have a few beers and that overwhelm goes away. Then Charlie will tolerate more the alcohol so he will need more. This is where his addiction to alcohol will take a next step and Alcohol will become his solution.
