Last updated: 15 December 2021

Wilkes County is part of the state's western mountain region with a population of over 68,000 people, and the county seat is the town of Wilkesboro. Families living in the region with loved ones struggling with addiction have access to local resources and treatment options. However, across the state and within many other communities are other rehabilitation options to treat addiction. The first step with treatment involves detox, which is essential to manage cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Detoxification options include inpatient medical detox or withdrawal management and or conventional or traditional detox. Typically, the severity of the addiction and accompanying withdrawal symptoms determines what method of detox is required. Detox should not be avoided, nor should it be considered the only approach to treatment.

Following detox, the next step involves attending an inpatient or outpatient drug rehabilitation center. Residential drug rehab programs are excellent options because more counseling and therapy are provided. Short-term residential treatment usually provides brief but intensive treatment because the programs last from three to six weeks. Long-term rehab centers offer more options because programs last from three to six months or more. Outpatient drug treatment is a common option for many families because it tends to be more affordable than most inpatient centers. Overall, the rehabilitation process should be well-rounded and meet the treatment needs of the person attending treatment.
