The city of Yonkers is part of Westchester County and has definitely struggled with substance abuse in the last years. This makes the presence of drug rehab centers in Yonkers extremely important. According to a 2016–2018 Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) for Westchester County, there is a focus to prevent substance abuse within the county. During the time of this community assessment, the non-medical use of prescription opioids was a significant community health problem. The number of inpatient hospital visits rose from 218.2 to 259.4 per 100,000 population within the county. It was confirmed during this report that the drug-related admissions were a top-five disparity in hospitalization rates. Within Westchester County programs such as medication lockboxes, drug take-back programs, and community education began to address the growing problem. The continuing goal within the county is to prevent overdose deaths and the non-medical use of opioids. Some of the commonly abused opioids include heroin, fentanyl, hydrocodone, methadone, morphine, and oxycodone.
