Yuma is a city that is found in the state of Arizona. It is home to an estimated population of around 98,000 people as of 2019 according to the United States Bureau, Yuma is one of the larger cities in the state. But one drawback to being larger and densely populated in that this often means increased rates of drug addiction and overdose. Since America’s drug epidemic began in the early 2000s, this has been an issue for much of the nation. In 2019 there were 20.8 drug deaths for every 100,000 residents of the state according to a report put out by America’s Health Rankings. This rate shows the very minimum of who did not get the help that they needed in the state. Each of these lives could have been saved if the individuals had gotten the help that they needed before it was too late. But so many people who die to drug overdose never made it into treatment before their life was lost to drugs. This is usually because in early addiction the person is much more likely to accidentally overdose because they have a lower tolerance and less experience with dosing. They are also less likely to accept help because they do not believe that they have a problem yet since they just started. They may think that they can stop whenever they want because they have never tried to quit yet and this mentality will perpetuate the addiction. This is why you never ignore signs of drug use in a loved one.
