Frequently Asked Questions

Should you seek treatment in Washington County, or look further away?

Washington County, the west Portland suburbs, has a real advantage. There is medically supervised withdrawal care right here, paired with short and long-term programs. Withdrawal management is the step people skip or handle wrong, and here it can be a direct entry point into a program, with no handoff and no gap to fall through. For a significant alcohol, benzo or opioid dependence that is where to start, since those are dangerous to stop without supervision. There are also long-term faith-based programs with vocational components. For more intensive day programs, Portland is fourteen to twenty-two miles east. For a heavy dependence, the withdrawal care that flows straight into a program bed is where I would start. The hardest and most dangerous first step is covered in your own county, which is more than most places can say.
